Reporting directly to the CEO & President and serving as an integral member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Vice President, Strategic Alliances is responsible for developing, building, and enhancing NMSDC’s strategic relationships with a coalition ecosystem comprised of NGOs, Public, and Private partnerships effectively and sustainably.

The Vice President, Strategic Alliances will serve as an ambassador for the organization by building strategic alliances and partnerships that uniquely position NMSDC as a collaborator and creator of sustainable change. The sustainable change aims to drive minority business growth and racial equality and help close our nation’s racial wealth gap.

In this high-impact, high-visibility role, you will work closely with the CEO & President, Vice President, Marketing & Communications, and other executive leadership team members to forge deeper alliances with existing partners and establish relationships with new partners. The Vice President, Strategic Alliances will have direct oversight of program development in collaboration with partners and ensure programs are executed and managed effectively and efficiently. An ideal candidate will be a seasoned professional and an executive with demonstrated success in being a strategic builder who can identify and manage beneficial partnerships and alliances in the nonprofit, corporate, and public sectors.

Primary Responsibilities:

Relationship/Partnership Development

  • Build a robust partnership ecosystem by facilitating and developing strategic alliances
  • Develop strategic partnership plans with a coalition ecosystem comprised of NGOs, public and private partnerships to support the organization’s mission, goals, and objectives. Ecosystem examples includes but not limited to:
  • NGO‘s
    – Ethnic Chambers of Commerce
    – Minority advocacy organizations
    – WBENC
    – NGLCC
  • Public
  • – Government agencies
    – Universities and research institutes
  • Private
  •  – Incubators & Accelerators
    – Venture Capital & Private Equity Firms
  • Utilize a mix of existing relationships, strategic introductions, and charismatic outreach to leverage existing relationships/contacts and develop new relationships
  • Acts as NMSDC’s partnership steward and develops its strategic alliance direction

Partner and Program Management

  • Manage partner relationships across their entire lifecycle from onboarding to ongoing success
  • Own the relationship with key strategic partners, overseeing the day-to-day interactions, and look for ways to deepen those relationships further
  • Oversee collaborative development of programs and manage the execution in partnership with alliances
  • Be a voice for NMSDC and its Partnership efforts, speaking on behalf of the NMSDC at Public/Private events

Leadership & Team Development 

  • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality
  • Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach consistently
  • Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, and conduct annual performance appraisals
  • Creates new pathways to growth by optimizing resources, strengthening partnerships, maximizing external impact, and focusing on the future

Qualifications:

  • Innovative and critical thinker with a track record of translating strategic thinking into action plans and results
  • Experience working cross-functionally to ensure partnership programs are in line with the overall goals and objectives of the organization
  • Demonstrated skill and comfort in proactively building relationships and alliances with executive-level resources across public and private sectors
  • Proven track record of driving business relationships from cooperative idea generation to contract negotiation to program management
  • Intellectually curious with a continuous learning mindset, demonstrated aptitude for understanding strategic investments and modern technologies
  • Must have an inclusive leadership style, outstanding management skills, and experience in building, developing, and supporting high-functioning teams
  • Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive; a team leader who can positively and productively impact both strategic and tactical partnership initiatives
  • A strong communicator; able to interface with a variety of audiences, both internal and external
  • Strong executive presence and confidence to project credibility to staff, senior leaders, Board of Directors, and all stakeholders
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Requires excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills; high ability to multitask
